We are willing to work with you to meet your school's internship requirements. Most internships are available year-round. Interns make great contributions to our programs — we want to make sure you have the best internship experience possible!

Youth Development

Youth Achievers Program
The Youth Achievers Program (YAP) provides case management, educational and enrichment programming for youth ages 8-14 who are facing serious behavior and academic challenges.
    Girls LEAD: Programming Assistant Intern
    The Girls LEAD serves "at-risk" girls ages 8-14. Girls LEAD focuses on girls' strengths, self-esteem, career exploration and math and science. Interns design and lead program activities, mentor girls and assist with program planning and research.

    Boys CLIMB
    Lead boys! The Boys CLIMB (Confidence, Life Skills, Involvement, Motivation, Behavior) is a leadership program designed to help boys acquire the skills, attitude and support they need to succeed today and into adulthood. M-F 2:00-6:00 pm. All day summer.

Housing & Supportive Services

The YWCA's Transitional Housing Program provides women with opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency by building skills while living with their family in a safe and supportive, affordable, chemical-free home environment. In addition to a place to live, women work with a case manager and participate in support services and educational activities.

    Transitional Housing: Child Enrichment Center Intern
    The Child Enrichment Center provides childcare for children in the Transitional Housing Program while mothers attend job and life skill workshops. Develop and implement activities and assist in coordinating programming for children and infants. Evening hours required.

Health & Fitness

The Health & Fitness Center promotes physical and emotional well-being through a wide range of services for women, men and children of all ages and fitness levels.
    Fitness Intern
    Assist with instruction in the use of and basic maintenance of machine weights, free weights and cardiovascular equipment on the fitness floor.

Skills for Life & Work

Although Skills for Life & Work is a new addition to our organizational structure, there is a long tradition of learning at the YWCA St. Paul. The new department will centralize and strengthen learning opportunities and allow the YWCA to be more responsive to urgent and emerging community needs. The first services, launched in September of 2008, strengthened the math and language arts skills of 37 young people. Future offerings are expected to include basic skills, financial literacy, conflict resolution, violence prevention and more.
    YW Reads and Project Able: Bilingual Academic Services Intern
    YW Reads (YWR) Helps students in grade K-3 to improve their reading skills and ensure they are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Project Able provides free tutoring in math and language arts to ensure students in grades K-8 are meeting minimum academic progress standards. Services are available at no-cost to eligible students from St. Paul Public Schools.
