Building Skills to Support Achievement and Self-SufficiencySkills for Life & Work empowers people of all ages to learn new skills and experience success. Although Skills for Life & Work is a new addition to our organizational structure, there is a long tradition of learning at the YWCA St. Paul. The new department centralizes and strengthens learning opportunities and allows the YWCA to be more responsive to urgent and emerging community needs. The first services, launched in September of 2008 focus on closing the achievement gap by helping young people to improve their math and reading skills. Future offerings are expected to include basic skills, financial literacy, conflict resolution, violence prevention and more. Project Able (PA): Provides free tutoring in math and language arts to ensure students in grades K-8 are meeting minimum academic progress standards. Services are available at no-cost to eligible students from St. Paul Public Schools. The PA Flyer is in PDF format. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download the free software here. For more information regarding eligibility or registration, please contact Sharla Scullen at (651) 265-0755.
YW Reads (YWR): Helps students in grade K-3 to improve their reading skills and ensure they are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.
