Girls LEAD is a specialty component of the Youth Achievers Program (YAP) meeting two days a week during YAP programming after school and during the summer. Girls LEAD prepares girls and young women (ages 7-14) for their future by helping them to acquiring the skills, healthy attitude, and support that they need to succeed into adulthood. LEAD helps girls discover their power to dream, develop the skills to plan for the future, and the courage to act on their plans.
Formerly known as Girls LEAP, the program has been renamed Girls LEAD . . . because girls lead the way! While the program name has changed, its focus and commitment remain steadfast. Through Girls LEAD, the YWCA St. Paul will continue to develop confident young leaders and, through our programming, the girls will LEAD the way to a brighter future.
LEAD addresses the “whole girl”—in the context of her life, relationships, and community and uses the following focus areas as tools for giving girls control of their future through exposure to:
- Math, Science and Technology
- Healthy bodies, healthy minds
- Career exploration
