Empowering Women and Families Through Supportive Housing and Services
A decent place to live... nourishing food to eat... a safe environment to raise our children.
While these are things that most of us take for granted, they remain beyond the reach of countless mothers in our community today. Our Transitional Housing Program provides a bridge for homeless women with children striving to move from homelessness and dependency to self-sufficiency and independent living. Safe, affordable YWCA housing - coupled with life skills training, job training, literacy and educational services, and most of all, a supportive, self-help environment - empower homeless women to transform their lives. Our Family Intervention Program helps homeless families secure and retain housing in the community through stabilization and case management. The Family Preservation Program provides housing placement assistance and a range of support services to prevent the trauma and expense of foster care by safely keeping children with their own family.

Family Intervention Program
Breaking the cycle of joblessness, abuse and isolation can seem an insurmountable challenge for many families. And the children often suffer the most. The Family Intervention program strives to prevent homelessness by stabilizing families in crisis and eliminating repeat use of emergency shelters. At every step, case managers work one-on-one with parents to ensure the basic needs of their children are met. Group mentoring services enable community volunteers to provide added support that the children need.
This is one of the few projects in Minnesota that provides long-term, comprehensive services to families with multiple barriers to family stabilization. Referrals to the Family Intervention Program are made by Ramsey County emergency shelter staff.

Family Preservation Program
Keeping families together - safely - is the foundation of the Family Preservation Program (FPP), an innovative program that works to prevent the trauma and expense of foster care by safely keeping children with their families.FPP is based on the premise that parents want their children to be safe, healthy, and well-cared for but parents challenged by multiple stressors (poverty, homelessness, family violence, responsibilities as a single parent, drug addiction, mental health issues, and criminal histories) may need help to bring that aspiration to fruition. Intensive case management and a range of intervention services ensure that the families secure safe, affordable housing and develop the parenting and independent living skills needed to safely stabilize the family unit.
FPP serves families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness, have an open child protection case, and are referred by Ramsey County Child Protection Services.
